Taiwan’s national day is October 10. Simultaneously, a dinner was held at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo on October 11. Regarding that dinner, a report has been published in the Daily News newspaper dated 11 October 2022. Daily News is a media organization controlled by the Government of Sri Lanka.
Director General Ben Wangya of the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai, was the chief guest of the event. Deputy Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage participated in this event representing the Sri Lankan Government
The headline used by the Daily News to report the event held at the Kingsbury Hotel is as follows. “Opening a new chapter in the Sri Lankan tourism history, the island nation for the first time is to give a firm hassle free assurance to Taiwan tourists to visit Sri Lanka”..
The Daily News reported that Diana Gamage promised to introduce the visa model that applying by India to the Taiwanese. Further the daily news reported that Deputy minister Diana has pledged Taiwanese envoy, to discuss visa matter with President Ranil and initiate necessary measures as appropriately.
Taiwanese envoy Ben Wang has said that if the visa issue is resolved, flights will be started through Maldives and India. Facts being so, It can be concluded that the event held at the Kingsbury Hotel was an official event organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
Currently, there is a cold war between China and Taiwan. China sees Taiwan as a ‘province’ that has broken away from its territory . The Chinese government is constantly trying to reunite Taiwan with China. This process is called ”One China”policy.
In August 2022, the President Ranil Wickremesinghe, promulgated an important Twitter message regarding Taiwan. Ranil said that Sri Lanka is committed to the ‘One China’ policy.
As such, National Alert brings the following points to Diana’s attention.
1. Taiwan’s National Day is the epicenter that challenge to the “One China” policy.
2. A Sri Lankan minister participating in an event, that challenging the One China policy is a serious matter.
3. Confrontation with China hinders Chinese debt restructuring process
4. There are serious conflicts between India and China. In that context they become enemy states. But Sri Lanka and China become absolute friends. In such a situation we cannot follow the visa policy followed by India, towards Taiwan.
5. While President Ranil had declared that he would commit to the One China policy, Diana challenged it, does because of stupidity or hooliganism?
It can be clearly concluded that Tourism Minister Diana has very little knowledge about geopolitics. And Diana doesn’t even know about Ranil’s policies. Little knowledge is extremely dangerous. This situation will be a sure reason to make Sri Lanka even more miserable
