On November 16-17, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sri Lanka and Pakistan regarding the bilateral military relations. It happened during the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Armed Forces Defense Dialogue (AFDD) held at the Expo Center in Karachi.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Defense Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Hamood uz Zaman Khan. The Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Defense Secretary General (retired) Kamal Gunaratne.
There, they reviewed the scope of bilateral military relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and agreed with further developments.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka agreed to continue to support each other at all regional and international fora.As per the reports Both countries has agreed to increase cooperation in the field of defense industry, military training and joint exercises.
Recently, on January 19, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jayashankar came to Sri Lanka. In his discussion an inquiry has been made about AFDD.
Accordingly The Indian Foreign Minister has questioned whether the SriLanakan cabinet had approved the MOU with Pakistan and whether the SriLankan parliament was informed about said MOU prior to proceed .
