No political party in SriLanka does not talk about the real reason that led to economic crisis. Some time ago, the cause of the economic crisis was said to be the war in the north. But unexpectedly, the war in the north, which lasted for three decades, ended. Accordingly, it was evident that the cause of the economic crisis was not the war.
At the end of the war, a new reason had to be presented as the cause of the economic crisis. Accordingly, said that the reason for the economic crisis is corruption of the politicians. Said narrative was blindly socialized by the Sri Lankan Media.Some narratives they socialized became political tsunamis that overthrew governments & politicians. Some of the so-called narratives they presented as the reasons for Sri Lanka’s economic crisis are as follows
1. Thefts of the Rajapaksas
2. Falling into the Chinese debt trap
3. Central Bank Bond Transaction (2015-16)
Sri Lanka went bankrupt because of none of the above. Sri Lanka went bankrupt because the system was messed up. There are 3 real reasons for the country’s bankruptcy.
1. Spending three times more than the government revenue
2. Maintaining a welfare base economy instead of a production based economy
3. Government sector becoming a burden, destroying the country
In developed countries when government present the annul budget, people look at the productivity of each expencess. That is they look for calculations such as ‘Return of the investment’ and ‘Pay back’. But when the SriLankan government presents the Budget people are worried about the reducing the prices and increasing wages only .
The situation during an election is no different. People only look for subsidies in party manifestos. Politicians don’t spend money to subsidize people. Foreign loans and taxes are spent for that. We are a nation that spends money on day today expenses that should be used for investment.
In Srilanka government servants are more corrupt than politicians . The number of politicians who deal with the power is less than 1000. But the Government service in Sri Lanka is close to 16 lakhs. Further 35,000 of them have super privileges. Government employees steal thousands of times as much as politicians do.
Further Government servants are provoking politicians to steal. In case the politicians are involved in corruption, the Government servants otherwise Police and the attorney general’s department should take appropriate action. But those two institutions have become highly corrupted institutions.
The central bank bond transaction became a controversial event due to the socialization of lie rather than reality. The Attorney General then Dappula De levera became the main actor in socializing the lie. Selling bonds is a business transaction. There is no one who lends money for noting.
Therefore, what is more important is not the purity of the borrowing process but the systematic spending of the borrowed amount. Unfortunately everyone questioned the borrowing process.( Accordingly Ranil-Ravi who involved in the borrowing process were labeled bad guys)
Further tragically No one looked into how the loan was spent. (Accordingly Malik Samarawickrama, Kabir Hashim and government officers who stole the loan money became pure guys)
We are a nation that believed for 30 years that the war in the north was the cause of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. now war is ended and we have found another reason it . It is now said that the reason for the economic crisis is the theft of politicians. When will we get rid of this myth ?
