It is undisputed fact, that day by day our country is collapsing . As a result, the happy dreams of the people have turned into tragedies. We have suffered this unfortunate fate not because of western conspiracies but because of our own superstitions.

Leftists are ahead of capitalist parties in terms of their ability to deceive people. The damage done to the country by red caps and patriotic slogans is immeasurable.

Singapore, which was a wasteland in the past, emerged as a trading city due to the right policies. The wretched projects like strikes and nationalization in our country were a blessing for Singapore. Lee Kuan Yew’s books have clearly explained how the port service was shifted to Singapore due to the strikes launched in Sri Lanka in the 50s.

In the 60s, the left promoted a wretched project called nationalization. At the same time, many energy companies including Shell left Sri Lanka. The aggrieved companies were given a red carpet welcome by Lee Kuan Yew. Today we are a country that buys oil from the Singaporean companies by paying double. It is worthy to note, those companies were chased out in 60s.

In the 70s, when countries opened up their economies, local Leftists forced the country’s economy to be closed. They forgot the relative trade advantage. They advocated to make everything in this country without ignoring the cost of production. As a result, we were left alone in a globalizing world.

Despite the introduction of the market economy in the 80s, the development was hampered by the armed struggles of the leftists. Due to the riots in this country, investors were attracted to countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Even after the 90s, the influence of the left was not insignificant. They insisted on maintaining a welfare economy. There was no room for a market-centered manufacturing economy.

Accordingly, every government that came to power took loans at high interest and gave subsidies to the people of this country. Politicians also stole under the guise of so-called welfare.

The country’s economy was in crisis with the Corona epidemic. But it was temporary. It was possible to get rid of the crisis by taking a loan from abroad, but the opportunity to take a loan was lost because the country was declared bankrupt. We are a country destroyed by so-called patriotism.

There is currently an energy crisis in Sri Lanka. But it is temporary.

Ranjan Jayalal, is the Conveyor of  Oil, Ports and Power Sector unions. He was a Colombo district  JVP candidate in the last parliamentary elections.

Yesterday he gave a solution to the electricity crisis in the country. He requested from public not to pay the electricity bills further stated they will not come to disconnect the electricity.

This may not be Jayalal’s solution to the power crisis but JVP’s solution.Time has come for people to be much more vigilant on  JVP’s policies.
