Currently, a video has gone viral in which it is said that 50 crore gold was sold in temple of tooth relic and the money was given to Mahinda Rajapaksa. Particular person claims that he tied the bundles of money and same was given to Mahinda by Diyawadana Nilame.
At first glance, it appears that the video is a random recording. But it is well planned conspiracy. The National Alert investigated on the case and details are as follows
- Name of the person who appeared in the video – Nihal R. Ferdinando
- Employment – On January 5, 2011, he was discontinued from Temple of the tooth relic under the chargers of severe misconduct.
- His Address – 158/1Mettavihari, Siripurawatta, 15th post, Malsiripura
- Political practice – He is a JVP member. He maintained close relation with JVP local leaders
- Nihal Ferdinando’s phone number – 071 279 0 218
Back ground search and Findings
During good governance regime in 2015 Nihal has complained to the anti-corruption unit that established in Temple Trees regarding several corrupt deals of Temple of tooth relic. Accordingly, the FCID has conducted an investigation . However, Dilrukshi Dias has closed the relevant file with a note that the complaint is not strong to proceed.
Nihal was removed from Temple of the tooth relic in 2011. Facts being so, if Nihal bundled the money, it must have been before 2011. But Nihal Ferdinandu has not revealed that corrupt deal from 2011 to 2023. Almost 12 years he kept mum.
The controversial video has been released to social media by a group of JVP members, JVP Vasantha samarasingha is the mastermind of said operation
Nihal Fadinando has been releasing political videos from time to time. But none of them exceeded 100 views. Among his videos, this is the only video that has become popular.
But this video is not added to his account. It appears that Nihal is reluctant to accept responsibility for this video.
Websites and individual Facebook accounts have contributed greatly to the socialization of anonymous video
The media and individuals in this country should be responsible for their media coverage. The police should not stay as mute spectators on fraud and corruption.
As the facts are so, the National Alert has complained to the Inspector General of Police asking for a proper investigation into this matter.
