Commercial use of titanium began in 1946. Initially, titanium extraction technology was limited to a few countries such as America, Russia and Japan.
In the early days, India did not have the technology to extract titanium. At that time, Japanese companies extracted titanium in India. Indians stole that technology from the Japanese. After stealing the technology, the Indians ensured to kick out Japanese companies from India.
Today, such Indians have came to Sri Lanka for titanium mining. The mining is happening in Mannar area. Further It is worth to note Indians have clashed with the people of Mannar.
Recruitment of retired police and army officers is a common feature among Indian investors. They do so nothing but to bend the law that suit the company.
Mars Metal and Mineral Co., which mines titanium in Mannar, has also recruited some retired army officers. Rear Admiral Serasinghe is one such person.
As of now the Talaimannar police have filed a case against some of the residents under section 66.
